Although many cities across the USA are open for business as cases of COVID-19 start to slow…
Some areas are still in full crisis mode. Next month marks a full half year since the first cities declared a state of emergency
It doesn’t need to be said, but if you can imagine a business unable to generate the revenue to pay their workers for 6 months, then you can imagine where a lot of Americans are right now. What also doesn’t need to be said is the level of impending panic as bankruptcy and unemployment numbers skyrocket.
Although we’re happy to say, there is a silver lining to this cloud
Following up on our article last week on how a recent tax credit can help janitorial companies cover COVID related supply costs, we also hear that now, In lieu of congress not being able to come to a proper agreement on what should be done as this pandemic shows little signs of going away anytime soon, Donald Trump has just signed a series of executive orders in order to expand coronavirus economic relief to Americans struggling during the pandemic.
This also expands assistance for janitorial companies trying to cover costs and pay their cleaners a living wage!
According to CNBC:
Trump’s orders will quickly face a legal challenge, as continuing the programs would require federal funding, which Congress controls.
The president said he will establish a payroll tax holiday through the end of the year to Americans earning less than $100,000 per year and instruct the Treasury Department to allow employers to defer payment of the employee portion of certain payroll taxes. However, there’s no guarantee workers will receive that money“
The president’s executive orders will also extend to the weekly unemployment bonus, although it will be at a reduced level of $400 per week, instead of the $600 per week that had been approved in March, and just expired at the end of July. Trump said individual states will need to cover 25% of the $400 weekly benefits.
As of July 31st we know many companies and unemployed Americans were starting to worry about what the following weeks and months would have in store for them. And so we can all heave a collective sigh of relief knowing that the support so desperately needed, will for the time being, remain in place.
